OUR APPROACH
At Waggles, we strive to teach a cooperative relationship between dog and handler using positive reinforcement. This is done with a building blocks approach to behaviors (concept, fluency, generalization). All classes, whether it be puppy obedience, basic obedience, agility, or other avenues of training, are presented with these building blocks in mind.
What’s Clicker Training?
This is a science-based technique based on classical and operant conditioning. The clicker is a mechanical device which is used to mark desired behavior, which is then rewarded. As each behavior is brought through the building blocks of training, the clicker is then faded from that specific behavior. The theory behind clicker training is to reward for desired behaviors, rather than to wait for and correct an undesired behavior. So, what happens when you have an undesired behavior? You teach a desired behavior in place of the unwanted behavior. (I.e., instead of begging at the table, teach your dog to lay on its bed.)
